SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIF. — There is a $50 million market waiting for a heat-resistant, breathable packaging material for medical applications, according to one packaging expert.
Scott Jacobs, packaging engineer in Fremont, Calif., with Target Therapeutics, gave a presentation titled ``Sterile Medical Packaging'' at the Plastics, Packaging and Recycling Symposium in San Luis Obispo.
DuPont Co.'s existing Tyvek high density polyethylene can withstand 260§ F and needs ``a tightly controlled cycle,'' Jacobs said. ``Twenty-five degrees would make all the difference'' for a clean-peeling package for steam sterilization.
Target Therapeutics became a division of Boston Scientific Corp. on April 8.
