CHICAGO—The Internet has sunk its electronic hooks deeper into the plastics world with AlliedSignal Plastics' (Booths S2523, E10901) launch of online resin buying. Customers can order Capron-brand nylon 6 and 6/6, Petra recycled PET, Nypel recycled nylon, and Dimension nylon/polyphenylene ether alloy resins from the Morris Township, N.J.-based firm by filling out a form on the company's Internet site (http:// www. asresin.com).
More than 60 percent of AlliedSignal's standard-grade resins are available through the system. The site is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Online orders will be confirmed by telephone, e-mail or fax within hours. In the future, the company plans to assign customers personal identification numbers to make buying easier.
Michael Bogar, sales and marketing director, Americas, said company research has shown that nearly a third of plastics end users and 10 percent of processors use the Internet.
``The system that's now in place will provide customers with order security as well as fast response,'' Bogar said in a news release.
The company's Web site also features information on company products, events, programs and personnel.
AlliedSignal claims to be one of the world's leading suppliers of nylon 6 resin for use in engineering plastics applications. The company's resins are used in packaging films, automotive parts, electrical wire and cable and other products.
