CAROL STREAM, ILL. — John F. Legat, founder and president of Trans Tech America Inc. of Carol Stream, Ill., died in an accident May 18. He would have been 51 years old May 30. Legat established Trans Tech 17 years ago and helped make it a leading transfer pad printing company. The firm, an Illinois Tool Works company, also specializes in printing automation, accessories and related supplies.
Legat also was a partner in Coates Screen Inc. of St. Charles, Ill., and Herrmann Ultrasonics Inc. and Tantec Inc., both of Schaumburg, Ill.
Legat's death resulted from a car racing accident in West Virginia.
Legat, who pursued auto racing as a hobby, was a driver in the race. He is survived by his wife, Waltraud, and two daughters.
