CHICAGO — Advanstar Communications Inc. and Plastics Technology magazine announced June 18 at NPE that they are teaming up on technical conferences at Advanstar's trade shows, called Plastics Fairs and Western Plastics Expositions.
Meanwhile, the regional show schedule promises to get crowded, as former Advanstar Expositions show manager Rebecca Lerew has left to start her own company.
Three Advanstar shows are scheduled for 1998 — Jan. 6-8 in Long Beach, Calif.; June 23-25 in Cleveland; and Sept. 22-24 in Atlantic City, N.J.
Under the agreement, Plastics Technology's editorial staff will coordinate technical conferences at the shows. Advanstar will continue to manage the shows. The two companies will share marketing and promotions, according to a statement issued by Gary Rekstad, publisher of Plastics Technology, and David Caplin, vice president of marketing development for Advanstar Expositions.
Both companies exhibited at NPE 1997 in Chicago. Advanstar is based in Cleveland. The trade magazine is published by Bill Communications Inc. of New York.
Meanwhile, Lerew trooped through NPE to promote her own company, Traverse Lerew Group Inc., which is planning to hold its Plastics Show events on Nov. 4-6 in Anaheim, Calif.; April 7-8 in Philadelphia; and in November 1998 in Detroit. Exact dates of the Detroit show have not been determined. Her company is based in Olmsted Falls, Ohio.
