CHICAGO — Welding Engineers Inc. said it recently sold two 58-millimeter Toshiba twin-screw extruders, like the one it exhibited June 16-20 at NPE 1997 in Chicago, to LNP Engineering Plastics Inc. of Exton, Pa.
Blue Bell, Pa.-based Welding Engineers said they were the seventh and eighth production-size Toshiba twin-screw models it has sold since July 1996. Early last year it agreed to be the exclusive licensee to produce and market Toshiba twin-screw, co-rotating compounders.
Toshiba's TEM-58 extruder features clamshell design for quick opening and easy cleaning and maintenance. It also incorporates a cast barrel, high-torque screw, patented gearbox and quick-clamp die.
Welding Engineers also displayed a 2 4/5-inch, pilot-plant-size extruder at NPE. The counterrotating, nonintermeshing machine gives distributive mixing at low shear rates, high free volume and long resident times. The firm claims these attributes make it suitable for devolatilization, reactive extrusion and various compounding uses.
