SINGAPORE—Apple Computer Ltd. in Singapore said it has agreed to sell its ailing printed circuit board assembly assets to local electronics giant NatSteel Electronics Pte. Ltd. for an undisclosed price.
California-based Apple last month said it would shut down its circuit board lines and lay off some 250 employees to save costs. Several interested buyers, including Singapore plastics processor and electronics manufacturer Omni Industries Ltd., emerged with bids.
Local plastics processors can now heave a sigh of relief, as NatSteel Electronics said it will continue to produce printed circuit boards for Apple's regional needs and for local manufacturers of personal computers.
