AVON LAKE, OHIO — Geon Co. has established Polymer Diagnostics Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary intended to allow the firm's clients to take advantage of its research and testing facilities.
The new venture will be marketed to customers, suppliers, academic institutions and other companies that need testing and problem-solving skills in polymer sciences, said officials at the PVC maker and compounder.
The new venture will offer mechanical and physical property testing, particle size measurements, fire science and flammability testing, and other analyses.
``We had been seeing a demand from current Geon customers and noncustomers,'' said Charles Daniels, PDI's marketing director. ``We've had suppliers say they've seen a new material offered and they want to know how it would perform.''
The subsidiary will be headquartered at a separate facility at Geon headquarters in Avon Lake.
Daniels said the business was separated from Geon to protect proprietary information, both for the customer and for Geon itself. PDI customers are included in confidentiality agreements that ``prevent information from flowing both ways,'' according to Daniels.
The new venture has about 30 employees including scientists, technicians and administrative staff.
