SCHWERTBERG, AUSTRIA — Austrian injection press maker Engel Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH of Schwertberg has provided additional details about its plans for building machines in South Korea.
According to Peter Neumann, Engel's managing director, Engel signed a contract July 23 to buy nearly 9 acres of land in Pyongtaek. Engel plans to build the factory in the next three years, and to ship the first Korean-made press in 2001, he said.
Production capacity will be 300-500 molding machines a year, Neumann said. The plant will produce tie-barless machines with clamping forces of 20-400 tons.
Neumann said Engel is the first injection molding machine manufacturer with assembly in North America, Europe and Asia.
``Engel has decided to build the plant in Korea because we need for our technology and quality standards skilled workers, a good infrastructure [and] high-quality suppliers. All this is available in Korea,'' Neumann said.
Engel North America is based in Guelph, Ontario.
