Royal Dutch/Shell Group and Ferruzzi-Montedison SpA confirmed they would merge their resin businesses. (Royal Dutch/Shell recently announced it would buy out Montedison's 50 percent in the merged company, Montell Polyolefins.)
The two largest producers of ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene products, Menasha Corp. and Solidur Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, agreed to a worldwide alliance. (Earlier this year Menasha became owner of 80 percent of the consolidated companies.)
