Kleerdex introduces acrylic/PVC compound
Kleerdex Co. introduced a tough, fire-retardant acrylic/PVC compound for injection molding.
Kydex IM62 has notched Izod impact strength of 18 foot-pounds per inch, flexural modulus of 326,000 pounds per square inch and tensile strength of 6,500 psi, according to the Mount Laurel, N.J., firm.
A spokesman said Kydex IM62 is an expansion of his firm's acrylic/PVC sheet and acrylic/PVC profile extrusion compounds. It makes the material at its ISO 9002-certified plant in Bloomsburg, Pa.

D-M-E publicizes numerous products
D-M-E Co. of Madison Heights, Mich., is introducing pre-manufactured hot-runner manifolds to the North American market.
D-M-E said its Flow Mate Manifold System is less expensive than typical hot-runner systems. The manifolds come in two shapes, an X-pattern for molding four-drop applications and an I-pattern for two-drop applications. Each size has a minimum and maximum dimension for spacing between drop locations. Standard flow plugs let a machinist cut them to any length.
D-M-E also has developed a new standard hydraulic unscrewing device for unscrewing parts with internal threads from a mold. The system uses a hydraulic cylinder to move a gear rack through pinion gears attached to the cores, spinning and unscrewing the part from the core.
The company also offers a new line of quick-connect hose stem sockets under the Jiffy-Lok brand name. The sockets do not require use of hose clamps.
A new Coolant Bridge is designed to replace flexible rubber hosing typically used to bridge two water lines on a mold. It uses a brass tube and compact adapters.
D-M-E also introduced new metric ejector pins, sleeves and ejector blades.
D-M-E makes the mold parts to Japanese Industrial Standards.
The pins are available in diameters from 1-15 millimeters, and lengths from 100-1,200mm. They are made from hot-work steel. The heads are hot forged.
The sleeves are available in lengths from 80-350mm, with inside diameters from 1.5-8.5mm.
Ejector blades come in lengths ranging from 100-300mm and blade widths from 1.2-10mm.
D-M-E, a subsidiary of Cincinnati Milacron Inc., also is supplying a new line of ejector sleeves featuring nitrided inside diameters. The outside of the sleeves also is nitride finished to minimize wear.
D-M-E also has expanded its line of ejector pins, adding 78 new sizes to the THX series and 48 sizes to the EX series. The firm said it has the largest selection of pin types in the industry.

Sure Shot RIM press offers space savings
Hi-Tech Engineering Inc. supplied an undisclosed automotive supplier a Sure Shot reaction injection molding machine interfaced with a Paternoster conveyor.
The cam-operated conveyor moves in a Ferris wheel motion, over and under, enabling the platen to stay horizontal. Hi-Tech said the system takes up much less space than the conventional turntable.
Hi-Tech's Sure Shot RIM machine has output rates of 200-900 pounds a minute at a 1-1 ratio.
Molds are mounted away from the machine, on the conveyor, and the materials are carried from RIM machine to molds through piping.
Hi-Tech is based in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Hotset unveils range of heaters for molds
Hotset Corp. of Battle Creek, Mich., introduced a one-eighth-inch- diameter cartridge heater for molds.
A high-watt density design enables the heater to reach 160 watts per square inch.
The company also has added a medium-watt density cartridge heater, available in diameters of a half-inch, five-eighths inch and three-quarters of an inch.

Alpheus machine cleans hot molds
Alpheus Cleaning Technologies Corp. is selling a machine for cleaning still-hot molds in the press that uses a dry ice blast.
Dry ice eliminates the need for cooling down the mold. Dry ice does not etch most surfaces, so molds are not damaged, according to the Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.-based firm.
Alpheus' EconoBlast employs rice-sized dry ice pellets, which disappear on impact. It measures just 14 inches wide and weighs about 100 pounds.
