CHULA VISTA, CALIF. — Custom injection molder Nypro San Diego Inc. is developing a new profit center, providing design and product analysis services.
``Once on line, we will begin promoting [the services] internally, selling to all other Nypro locations and offering externally to current and new customers and other molders who are not direct competitors,'' Thomas Opielowski, general manager, said in an office interview in Chula Vista.
``We are looking for a seamless interface with other design systems,'' particularly with western United States affiliates Nypro Oregon Inc. in Corvallis, Ore., and Nypro Colorado Inc. in Longmont, Colo.
For six weeks, Nypro evaluated numerous computer-assisted-design software packages and how they link with computer-aided-manufacturing programs and flow-simulation software such as the Moldflow program from Moldflow Corp. of Lexington, Mass., and the C-Mold program from AC Technology Inc. of Ithaca, N.Y.
``We want a single, flexible database and easy-to-use interface between packages,'' Opielowski said.
Nypro San Diego anticipates spending $35,000-$80,000 for software.
The new capability will give the company ``the complete circle,'' he said. Nypro San Diego performs tool design, engineering and high-tech molding and is a subsidiary of employee-owned Nypro Inc. of Clinton, Mass.
