Beach temporarily has moved three 1,000-ton presses into a leased portion of Lightning Metal's 105,000-square-foot facility, Van Holley, director of Lightning Metal operations in Texas, said in a telephone interview. Holley was a manager with Dell Computer Corp. until two years ago.
Representatives of an architectural firm, a contractor and the Beach Texas unit are discussing construction of another building on Lightning Metal's 14-acre site in New Braunfels.
``We hope to be done by June,'' said Dale Yost, Beach Mold chief financial officer.
Beach Texas' proposed 100,000-square-foot building and equipment will cost about $4.5 million.
LMS Beach will use the Beach output and sheet metal parts from Lightning Metal's adjacent plant in assembling chassis and putting in power supplies.
``By bringing together plastic and sheet metal production under one roof, we are providing a more efficient manufacturing and assembly environment for our customers in Texas,'' Bill Beach, Beach Mold chief executive officer, said in a news release.
Beach would not provide details about the number or tonnage of additional presses for the new building. Beach Texas employs 20 now and is hiring more.
