CHICAGO — Earnway Industries Ltd. of Thunder Bay, Ontario, is packing a new food container line this year, a first for the small injection molding firm.
The company introduced the polypropylene containers, dubbed Rainbow Micro-Tainer, at the International Housewares Show in Chicago.
``Over the past year we were looking for new opportunities,'' marketing director Dick Charbonneau said at the show. ``Logically, the next step for us was to make our own products.''
Earnway was established in 1991 as a mold maker and original equipment manufacturer of kitchen appliance parts. Its secondary operations include ultrasonic welding, pad printing and assembly work.
The privately held company does not disclose financial data.
Earnway employs as many as 40 people as needed, and operates five presses, with clamping forces of 100-400 tons, in an 8,500-square-foot facility, Charbonneau said.
