WOODSTOCK, ILL. — Thermoplastic resin distributor Shannon Industrial Corp. is investing about $4.5 million in a new, 65,000-square-foot facility in Woodstock.
The company said it plans to relocate from its 23,000-square-foot distribution facility in Elgin, Ill., by mid-February.
George Kurz, general manager, said the new operation will allow Shannon to package resins directly from railroad cars. It has been using a contract packager and storing rail cars in public rail yards.
Shannon's Woodstock facility includes three on-site railroad spurs with about 4,000 feet of rail capable of storing 46 cars. Shannon also installed bulk storage tanks with 1.5 million pounds of capacity, two automated boxing lines and a truck scale for bulk truck weighing.
Kurz said the new facility on 61/2 acres is designed for 53,500 square feet of future expansion.
Shannon, which has distributed resins since 1965, is a national distributor for Nova Chemicals Inc.'s polystyrene and Montell Polyolefins' polypropylene resins.
