SAN DIEGO — Trend San Diego may add five Engel injection molding presses this year, Ted Duggan, general manager, said in an office interview.
San Jose, Calif.-based Trend Technologies Inc. took possession of a leased San Diego site Aug. 1, started operations Oct. 10 and showed off the facility in a Jan. 30 open house.
Trend San Diego employs 40 including one toolmaker.
``We plan to be at 60-70 people by the end of the year,'' Duggan said.
The current round-the-clock, five-day operation will move to a seven-day schedule quickly, he said.
The plant has 11 Engel machines with clamping forces of 35-750 tons, and plans to have 27 presses eventually.
Manufacturing occupies about 30,000 square feet; warehousing, 18,000 square feet; and the quality laboratory, tooling operation and offices, 18,000 square feet. Previously, the composites manufacturing division of Easton Inc. used the facility.
The plant's customers include Hewlett-Packard Co., Hughes Network Systems, Sony Electronics Inc. and Sun Microsystems Inc.
