NEW YORK — The New York-based Tube Council of North America has announced the 1997 Tube of the Year Award winners.
The Plastic Tube of the Year was manufactured by Tubed Products Inc. of East Hampton, Mass.
The Le Cirque Leapin' Lady Shower Gel, marketed by Avon Products Inc. in New York, is packaged in a coextruded, soft-touch material with an inner layer of high density polyethylene. The tube has a patented closure and three-color silk screening.
The Laminate Tube of the Year and the Most Innovative Tube is a Nickelodeon Oral B Toothpaste tube, marketed by Oral B Laboratories in Belmont, Calif., and manufactured by Courtaulds Packaging, Laminate Tubes, North America. Courtaulds, a division of Courtaulds Packaging plc in London, laminated an ethylene vinyl alcohol barrier layer between polyethylene.
The North American operation, based in Florence, Ky., also injection molds the HDPE shoulder, places a foil seal over the polypropylene orifice and prints six colors on the surface.
