A giant, 5,000-ton Next Wave-brand injection press is one of two that HPM Corp. technicians are finishing up for Saturn Corp. Right now, the two-platen machines sit side by side on the assembly floor of HPM's plant in Mount Gilead, Ohio. HPM and Saturn will do mold testing on one of the machines in late March, Stephen Byrnes, HPM vice president and general manager of injection molding, said in a March 16 interview at HPM. Mold testing on the second machine is scheduled for early April. Saturn will mold car parts on the presses at its plant in Spring Hill, Tenn.
