CHICAGO — Lauren Manufacturing Co., a New Philadelphia, Ohio, extruder and injection molder, is in the midst of several multimillion-dollar expansions.
The firm completed a $3 million expansion at its headquarters in December, adding 40,000 square feet, two extrusion lines and about 30 employees. The firm already has utilized the additional space. Lauren has 18 extrusion lines and 350 employees at its 160,000-square-foot facility.
Meanwhile, Lauren's sister company, Edgetech I.G. Inc. in Cambridge, Ohio, has begun a joint venture with German-based Gummiwerke GmbH. The companies are constructing a $10 million custom mixing facility in Cambridge. Initially, the plant will operate one mixer with the capacity to add three.
Ron Felgenahuer, vice president of Lauren, expects the 535,000-square-foot Edgetech plant to be operational in June with production beginning at about 16 million pounds per year. Initially, the volume will be used by Lauren. It will start with 30 employees, he said at the National Design and Engineering Show, held March 16-19 in Chicago.
In April, Lauren expects to have an agreement signed with Gummiwerke to start an $8 million joint venture in Dover, Ohio.
The companies plan to target automotive applications. The 150,000-square-foot operation will employ 100 and run five lines.
Lauren Manufacturing began operations as a rubber extrusion firm in 1965. It now makes custom-designed and standard profiles including closed-cell sponge, plastic, solid rubber, silicone, gaskets and weatherstripping.
