MIAMISBURG, OHIO — Arkay Industries Inc. is opening a third plant, in Paris, Ill., to supply its growing automotive molding business.
Arkay is completing a 10,000-square-foot facility in Paris and will start commercial molding there in May or June, according to the firm's treasurer John Kuhnash. Three new Mitsubishi presses with clamping forces of 950-1,800 tons will mold parts for an undisclosed customer, and Arkay expects to add a fourth auto parts press within a year.
Auto parts accounted for much of Arkay's 17 percent sales growth for the year ended July 31, and the Miamisburg-based company expects that market to continue to fuel growth this year and next, Kuhnash said in a telephone interview. Fiscal year-end sales totaled $67.5 million, with automotive representing at least two-thirds of that sum.
Arkay's Prattville, Ala., plant is expanding auto molding for Mercedes vehicles assembled in Alabama.
Prattville's other business, waste management and materials handling, also has been growing since Otto Industries Inc. phased out its Charlotte, N.C., molding facility last year and farmed out the molding to Arkay.
Privately held Arkay also has one plant each in Monroe, Ohio; Belcamp, Md.; and Lodi, Calif. It operates 62 presses and offers design, tool-building and other secondary services.
