Packaging thermoformer Computer Designs Inc. expects by July to begin operations in a new, 49,000-square-foot, fully climate-controlled facility it is constructing on 71/2 acres in Whitehall Township, near Allentown, Pa.
``We are growing 45 percent a year in sales'' and anticipate more work, Kurt Ridgway, vice president, said by telephone.
The company designs and produces plastics packaging for medical and surgical instrumentation and high-end electronics parts. Five designers have access to Parametric Technology Corp.'s Pro/Engineer and EDS Inc.'s Unigraphics design and manufacturing software systems. Two more designers will join once the 10-mile relocation takes place.
Computer Designs operates two Sencorp System Inc. in-line thermoformers and will add a third Sencorp at the new site.
The company opened in 1988, employs 45 and leases a 14,400-square-foot facility and a 10,000-square-foot warehouse, both in Allentown. Ridgway expects the firm to add 15-20 people in the next 12-18 months.
Even before North Star Construction Management Inc. completes work on the new facility, Computer Designs is evaluating plans for a phase-two expansion.
