MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO — Stephen Sales Group is the new distributor for Conair's injection and blow molding auxiliary equipment, officials announced at Plast-Ex 98 in Mississauga.
The Markham, Ontario, firm represents Conair's molding auxiliaries in Ontario, Canada's largest plastics market, and Manitoba, said Peter Stephen, a principal in the company. Conair spokesman Scott Collins said Conair will announce representatives for other Canadian regions at a later date.
Stephen Sales also recently began representing Van Dorn Demag Corp.'s injection molding machinery in Ontario and Manitoba, Stephen said in an interview at his firm's booth. Stephen Sales previously represented Cincinnati Milacron Inc.'s injection molding machinery, while Mould-Tek Industries Inc. of Toronto represented Van Dorn Demag.
Former Conair distributor Hamilton Avtec Inc. is considering how to replace weigh blender and dryer sales it lost when Stephen Sales gained the Conair account. Company director Richard Hamilton said Hamilton Avtec will make or buy the machinery to keep it in its product line. It also is talking with Scheer Bay Co. of Bay City, Mich., about representing that company's pelletizing equipment. Hamilton Avtec of Mississauga also makes auxiliary equipment.
Cincinnati-based Milacron will use a combination of direct sales and representatives in the Canadian injection molding machine market, said Fred Charpentier, regional sales manager for injection machinery.
Representatives include J.C. Gagnon Machinerie of Laval, Quebec; New Tech Machinery Ltd. of Burlington, Ontario; and Shaw Tech Sales Inc. of Puyallup, Wash.
Grant Jefferson will continue to be a direct sales representative based in Burlington, Charpentier said.
Metaplast Ltd., owned by Conair, will represent Conair's extrusion-related machinery in all of Canada.
The Lachine, Quebec, company also makes extrusion equipment. Conair claimed that it and Metaplast make up one of the few North America-based suppliers of complete, large profile extrusion lines. Metaplast exhibited a window profile line featuring a new calibration table and new cleated puller at the show, held May 12-14.
