U-Nova Plastics, a new extruder of custom plastic and rubber ducting, is gearing up production in Richmond Hill, Ontario.
The firm started in January and is part of the Flexmaster group of companies, said Ian Donnelly, Flexmaster president, chief executive officer and founder.
Flexmaster, based in Richmond Hill, makes heating, venting and air conditioning ducts, spiral pipe and fittings. The firm was founded in 1978. Flexmaster companies also include Uni-chem, a manufacturer of chemical liquid transfer hoses, and Z-Flex, which makes chimney lining and vent systems.
Flexmaster produces hose, venting, and ducting products in Richmond Hill, Whitby, and Etobicoke, Ontario; Bedford, N.H.; Berlin, N.J.; and Charlotte, N.C.
``The idea to begin the U-Nova ducting facility has been fermenting for quite awhile,'' Donnelly said. ``It only took us six months from start to finish to get U-Nova Plastics up and running.''
Anwar Ahmad, head of plastics operations at U-Nova, feels the company has had a quick start.
``We only had one employee when we started in January, we currently have four employees, and we should have eight by the end of this year,'' Ahmad said.
U-Nova's ducting is made from PVC, thermoplastic rubber, TP polyurethane, and polyester in diameters of 11/2-14 inches, and customers can request metric sizes. The ducting is shipped for industrial transfer of air, sawdust, metal fillings and chemical fuels, and is used for airline flight waste.
