Injection molder Triple S Plastics Inc. of Vicksburg, Mich., has purchased the assets of rapid prototyper Dynacept Co.
Dynacept is a privately owned company in Bedford Hills, N.Y., that specializes in prototyping, appearance modeling, engineering prototypes, and pre-production samples using stereolithography and advanced decorating and painting processes.
Triple S Chief Executive Officer Robert Monk said the purchase will give both companies the opportunity to see projects from start to finish.
``All Dynacept is used to seeing is the design phase, and its work stopped at producing the actual model,'' Monk said by telephone. ``Triple S just completed projects and never had the chance to have a say or see the planning in action. Now the companies will be able to work together through the whole process.''
Monk added that Dynacept will bring Triple S closer to the beginning of the product development cycle, with the ability to offer prototyping and advanced manufacturing capabilities.
``This acquisition will allow us to have a manufacturing presence in the northeastern U.S., where we currently have large customers,'' Monk said. ``We feel in this case two plus two is going to equal five. We know both companies are going to bring a lot to this acquisition, and we know combined they are going to be very strong.''
Triple S has injection molding facilities in Georgetown, Texas; Tucson, Ariz.; and Battle Creek, Mich.
In 1997 Dynacept had sales of $3.5 million.
Triple S, a publicly traded company, ranked 74th in Plastics News' 1997 survey of North American injection molders, with sales of $66 million.
