CLAYTON, MO. — Spartech Corp. plans to beef up its new profile extrusion business through acquisitions and facility upgrades in the next few months.
Spartech, a publicly held company better known for its sheet extrusion and compounding operations, reported profile sales of $5.1 million in 1997. The firm has 12 profile extrusion lines at two plants, in McPherson, Kan., and Greensboro, Ga.
Spartech bought the operations in August when it purchased the assets of Echlin Inc.'s Preferred Plastic Sheet Division.
Plant manager Randy Wright, at Spartech's Clayton head office, said the firm plans to buy three new extrusion lines, but acquiring complementary companies could create a change of plans.
``We are looking at some other profile and extrusion companies in the southeastern and the western United States right now,'' Wright said. ``We probably will purchase the three lines no matter what, but it would be wonderful if we could gain extrusion lines from a purchase.''
