Cannon introduces InterWet technology
Cannon USA Inc. said it has created a machine that coinjects polyurethane with a variety of nonreactive fillers, such as long fibers, recycled foam, finely chopped wood, milled cork or sawdust.
Cannon claims the technology, dubbed InterWet, allows the production of thin-wall molded parts. The product's name comes from a special coinjection chamber that improves wetting.
Other benefits include simple design, a lightweight mixing head and the freedom to use a range of fillers with little or no modifications required to the feeding equipment.
Cannon, based in Cranberry Township, Pa., near Mars, Pa., said InterWet addresses the main problem of adding nonreactive materials to PU: the correct metering and feeding of the fillers and the need to wet the fillers' surface completely with the liquid polymer.
InterWet is based in Cannon's FPL high-pressure mixing head. Traditionally, FPL used two cylindrical chambers, one for each component, mixing them together and forcing them through a 90-degree bend to the mix head.
With InterWet, the company has modified the upper section of the mix head to allow for the introduction of filler from a large hopper.
Kinetic energy from the pressurized liquids is used to wet the stream of the solid filler, just before impingement mixing, the company said.

Moog-Hydrolux offers modular manifold line
Moog-Hydrolux Hydraulic Systems LLC of East Aurora, N.Y., introduced a line of modular manifolds for hydraulic injection presses, ranging in clamping force from 100-1,500 tons.
Standard features are pressure release for limiting pump pressure, proportional valves with an integral limit switch, a bypass valve, a pressure safety relief for the press cylinder, a leak-free safety gate valve and a safety pressure relief valve.
Optional features include the limiting of proportional and pilot-operated pump pressure and directional control valves with a limit switch.

Nissei Elject ES line has five new sizes
Nissei Plastic Industrial Co. Ltd. has added five new sizes of injection presses to its electric injection presses, the Elject ES.
The models have clamping forces of 20, 60, 80, 110 and 155 tons.
Nagano, Japan-based Nissei said the presses have a new, easier-to-use, faster controller, the NCT9300T.
In the United States, Nissei is represented by Nissei America Inc. in Anaheim, Calif.
