North End Composites LLC and BP Advanced Products LLC, both of Rockland, Maine, have formed a partnership to focus on new applications for composites in passenger and freight rail markets.
North End has been manufacturing composites, primarily for the marine industry, for more than 20 years. BP Advanced Products is a management, marketing and engineering company.
Christopher Evans, North End president and chief executive officer, said this partnership will enable North End to diversify into new markets.
``North End will continue to serve its traditional markets such as marine tooling, but this partnership will allow us to broaden our expertise in composites processing, tooling, and large component part fabrication,'' he said.
The venture may use North End facilities in Rockland and South Casco, Maine, and North End's five-axis computer numerically controlled equipment for fabricating complex fiberglass-reinforced plastic tools and molds.
``Our objective is to form business partnerships with select customers to develop affordable composite structures,'' said Mike Bowman, BP managing partner.
The new company will be called BP North End Advanced Composite Products LLC.
