Materials handling is growing market
CLEVELAND — U.S. demand for materials-handling equipment should grow 7.4 percent a year, reaching $22.6 billion in 2002, says a Freedonia Group Inc. report.
Robots and other automation systems will grow even faster, by 8.6 percent a year, to top $5 billion in 2002, Freedonia said. The growing flexibility of automation equipment, allowing changes to meet new production demands, will drive the growth, it said.
The Cleveland market research firm said the distribution sector, especially delivery services, will experience the fastest growth, due to a building boom of warehouse and distribution facilities.
Material Handling Equipment & Systems costs $3,200.
