NORWALK, CONN. — Fort James Corp. has acquired Beckett Technologies, a microwave packaging products manufacturer.
Mississauga, Ontario-based Beckett buys polyester film and converts it through a laminating process. The film is a carrier for aluminum foil and acts as a barrier for the food side. It also is oriented for stability.
``No one else has a similar technology,'' Chuck Wilson, vice president of public affairs for Fort James, said by telephone. ``It's a unique technology because it provides even heating and temperature balance. It is designed to solve the problem of microwaved foods getting burned around the edges with the middle still cold.''
Fort James plans to use the technology for bigger-sized packaging for products such as pizza, he said. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Fort James, located in Norwalk, makes plastic and paper consumer products and packaging, folding cartons and paper for industrial use.
