SUFFIELD, CONN. — A fire caused Teleflex Fluid Systems to close its Suffield hose plant for about a day.
Fire broke out early June 30 in an oven used for heating reinforced plastic. A sprinkler system partly extinguished the blaze, but firefighters were called in at about 8:45 a.m. Nineteen people were treated briefly at hospitals for smoke inhalation and released, said Janine Dusossoit, Teleflex vice president of investor relations.
The firm closed the plant temporarily to vent smoke. Teleflex shut down affected equipment for 11/2 days and there was no other plant damage, Dusossoit said. Company officials will re-evaluate procedures for oven cleaning and fume venting. The facility makes flexible hose for fluid handling.
