STONEY CREEK, ONTARIO — AW Compounders Ltd. is investing C$3 million (US$2 million) in its Stoney Creek facility to expand capacity and diversify.
AW will install a new twin-screw extruder supplied by Maris F.lli Spa of Rosta, Italy. The machine can make 10 million pounds per year of thermoplastic elastomers and thermoplastic rubber. When it begins operating in August, it will be AW's fourth twin-screw model at the plant, AW President Ariff Wakani said. AW also is building a 25,000-square-foot addition there.
The project will enhance AW's ability to make Evoprene TPE compounds and boost current capacity for products such as Ultralex TPE compounds and TPRs.
AW is part of Laporte Worldwide Compounding Group, a unit of Laporte plc of London. Laporte Group recently announced plans to build a compounding plant in Melton Mowbray, England. Robert Gingue, Laporte Group managing director, said the group has other expansion plans, but details have not been disclosed.
Laporte plc had 1997 sales of about £830 million (US$1.3 billion).
