DETROIT — The Society of Plastics Engineers wants to widen the scope of an educational foundation it created in February.
SPE's Detroit Section and its Automotive Division created the Plastics Foundation to raise funds to further the technical and engineering knowledge of plastics. Expansion ideas include helping poor students attend college and sponsoring internships.
The foundation is an outgrowth of a 12-year-old college scholarship, called the Robert Dailey Sr. Scholarship, given annually to Michigan high school students, said foundation President Douglas Stratton. The foundation awards about $20,000 each year to students attending five Michigan colleges to enter plastics.
