TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — Ciba Specialty Chemicals is appointing Witco Corp. as worldwide distributor of its antioxidants, light stabilizers and optical brighteners to the PVC industry. In return, Ciba is acquiring Witco's antistatic business for non-PVC applications.
There will be no exchange of assets and both firms will continue making products at their respective facilities, Ciba spokesman Fred Vigeant said. Witco's distribution appointment will be effective Aug. 1 in North America and Europe, and eventually the rest of the world, the companies said. Ciba's acquisition was to be complete July 20.
Officials said in a July 7 news release that each company will gain from a broader range of product offerings. Ciba's additives include Tinuvin and Chimassorb ultraviolet absorbers and hindered amine UV stabilizers, Uvitex optical brighteners and Irganox antioxidants.
Witco makes ethoxylated amine antistatic materials and antistatic blends under the Kemamine brand name. They will complement Ciba's new Irgastat permanent antistatics.
Witco is based in Greenwich, Conn., and Ciba Specialty Chemicals is in Tarrytown.
