MORRISTOWN, N.J.—The Vinyl Institute presented John L. Russ III, executive vice president at Borden Chemical Inc., with the Roy T. Gottesman Leadership Award.
Russ became involved with Morristown-based VI in 1985, serving as chairman of the board from 1991-93. He continued to serve on the executive committee until 1997.
During his time at the VI, Russ helped initiate meetings of vinyl industry representatives from around the world to discuss matters of mutual interest, particularly environmental issues. This led to the formation of the Global Vinyl Conference, which continues to hold annual meetings.
This is the second time VI has presented the award, named for the trade association's founding director.
Last year's recipient was Fred Krause, then director of environmental solutions for Geon Co., and now senior adviser for the Chlorine Chemistry Council.
