TURNERS FALLS, MASS. — New England Extrusion Inc. soon will order a coextrusion line for its Turners Falls headquarters plant.
Marketing manager Melissa Gardiner said her firm plans to start the new line in mid-1999 to improve New England's flexibility in making thin-gauge, three-layer film. One of Turners Falls' five lines is a coextrusion system.
Gardiner said Reifenhauser Inc. of Lawrence, Mass., is on her firm's short list of potential extrusion line suppliers. It supplied the last three lines acquired by New England, including the two at the company's facility in Milton, Wis.
New England opened the Milton plant in March. Gardiner estimated Milton's capacity in monolayer film at about 16 million pounds per year. New England plans to install a third monolayer line there by the end of next year.
The new line probably will be slightly smaller than New England's current system, which has a 41/2-inch and two 3-inch extruders.
New England extrudes polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene. It recorded sales of $25.2 million last year, up from $19 million in the previous year.
