SCHILLER PARK, ILL. — Rao Design International Inc. has extended its blow molding machinery operations to include custom blow molding.
The Schiller Park firm is investing about $1.8 million to construct and equip a 30,000-square-foot building in Schiller Park dedicated to blow molding. It has started with seven extrusion blow molding machines and six reheat stretch blow molders, according to company vice president Davy Murukurthy. It plans to add three more extrusion blow molders.
Rao Design named the new company PET & Extrusion Blow Containers Inc. It started operating Sept. 1 in Rao Design's current PET machine-building operation but will move to the new facility in November, Murukurthy said.
The new company will process PET into containers as large as 5 liters, and other resins, including polyethylene, polypropylene and PVC, into containers as large as 30 liters, she said.
Murukurthy said Rao Design has done trial blow molding for machinery and mold customers for most of its 34 years in business. Lately it only had three extrusion blow molders. The firm makes blow molds and PET blow molding machines in Schiller Park and extrusion blow molding machinery through a joint venture in India. She said PET & Extrusion will buy PET preforms from various injection molders.
