CHICAGO — Plastics USA is 1998's biggest North American plastics show — but it's still second fiddle to NPE 2000.
Preparations already are under way for NPE, which will take place June 19-23, 2000, at Chicago's McCormick Place.
Anticipating record demand for exhibits, the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. announced Sept. 29 that the drawing for NPE exhibit space is scheduled for March 16-17, 1999, in Chicago from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the International Ballroom of the Chicago Hilton and Towers.
``Even with an increase in available exhibit space of at least 8 percent over NPE 1997, we still expect NPE 2000 to be a sellout,'' said SPI President Larry L. Thomas.
The 2000 show — the 23rd NPE since 1946 — expects to surpass the 1997 show, which set three NPE records: number of exhibiting companies (1,726), net exhibit space (1.015 million square feet), and number of registered participants (82,634).
Companies that belong to Washington-based SPI receive substantial discounts on space costs and upgrades in drawing priority.
Nonmember U.S. companies still can be considered for those advantages by joining SPI before Jan. 1, Thomas said.
NPE figures the size and location of an exhibitor's space by assigning drawing priority to a company according to the number of previous NPEs in which it has exhibited and whether it is an SPI member.
To receive a copy of the NPE 2000 prospectus, which includes detailed information about the drawing, companies may contact Hall-Erickson Inc., NPE 2000 exposition management, in Westmont, Ill.
