CHICAGO — The Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. hopes to reschedule its annual Illinois Plastics Industry Day, but it is unlikely that it will happen until next year.
The event had been scheduled for Oct. 8 in conjunction with Plastics USA 98. SPI canceled the event on Oct. 2.
Instead of the Industry Day event, SPI will sponsor a smaller focus group meeting later this month to discuss work force development programs and other issues, said Susan Faurot, SPI director of Midwest regional operations in Chicago.
The focus group event will be by appointment, but companies interested in participating can contact Faurot at Plastics USA (Booth 831), or at SPI's Midwest office, tel. (773) 380-0808.
Faurot said the Industry Day event was canceled because many area companies did not plan to attend.
``I really believe now that it is not in the industry's best interest to have it in conjunction with a trade show,'' Faurot said. She said member and nonmember companies had told her that they planned to send representatives to Plastics USA, but that it did not make sense to stay in Chicago for the Industry Day.
