ALLENTOWN, PA. — Russell-Stanley Corp. is expanding its new plant in Upper Macungie Township, Pa., near Allentown.
``This will give us more ability to expand our services operation and production of drums,'' Kevin Kerchner, vice president of operations at Russell-Stanley, said.
The 145,000 square feet will give the leased plant a total of 294,000 square feet for the firm's Container Management Services division and blow molded drum manufacturing. CMS leases drums and industrial bulk containers to customers and provides on-demand delivery. When the containers are empty, CMS picks them up, cleans, inspects and tests them.
The expansion should be complete by December. The plant employs about 180.
Russell-Stanley is the top U.S. manufacturer of blow molded drums. It runs 13 plastic drum manufacturing plants, three steel drum making plants and two CMS locations. The company reported blow molding sales for 1996 of $70.5 million, but those figures should jump to about $135 million next year with its purchase of Smurfit Packaging Corp.
Russell-Stanley is based in Red Bank, N.J.
