CAPE FEAR, N.C.—DuPont closed its experimental Petretec operations at the company's Cape Fear plant in September.
The facility, which still runs fiber operations, housed polyester regeneration technology, a form of recycling that unzips the polymer into monomers.
``The company doesn't feel market conditions allow us to operate the facility,'' spokeswoman Anne McIntosh said. ``We proved that Petretec is a success technologically and in manufacturing.''
The Wilmington, Del., company plans to continue its work with interested parties and trade groups.
The three-year Petretec experiment reclaimed polyester such as X-ray films.
