RATINGEN, GERMANY — William J. Long has been named president of Schmalbach-Lubeca Plastic Containers Americas, replacing William R. Burke, who left to pursue other opportunities, according to the company.
Long was vice president and general manager of the firm's Latin American operations and has more than 19 years of experience in PET packaging. He had worked for Continental Can Co., which became part of Schmalbach-Lubeca's PET operations through a series of acquisitions.
Plastic Container Americas operates 16 plants in North America and seven in Latin America.
Schmalbach-Lubeca Plastic Containers U.S.A. Inc. of Manchester, Mich., placed third in Plastics News' most recent ranking of North American blow molders, with estimated 1997 sales of $629 million. Its parent, Schmalbach-Lubeca AG, is based in Ratingen.
