AKRON, OHIO — Plastics News has a new reporter, a new production manager, an editorial intern, plus new correspondents in Tokyo and Mexico City.
Shannon Ledson, formerly a reporter with the daily Medina (Ohio) County Gazette newspaper, joins Plastics News Feb. 1 as a staff reporter at its Akron headquarters. Ledson graduated in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio State University. She worked in 1996 as a reporter at Suburban News Publications in Columbus, Ohio.
Ledson will replace Phyllis Codling, who plans to work as Plastics News' part-time correspondent in Tokyo beginning in February.
Ronald Buchanan is joining Plastics News as its Mexico correspondent. The Scottish native has lived for about 10 years in Mexico, in two stints. He was a news correspondent in Mexico for Business Week in the early 1980s; has worked for The Guardian national daily in the United Kingdom; and has edited both a Spanish-language business weekly and the Mexico City Times, an English-language newspaper. He is now a full-time free-lance writer.

Mary Whitman was named Plastics News production manager Jan. 1. She had been production manager for two Akron-based sister publications, Rubber & Plastics News and Tire Business. Whitman has worked at Crain Communications Inc. for three years. Prior to joining Crain, she had spent 10 years in advertising.
She replaces longtime PN production manager Nancy Humes, who has assumed a similar post at Waste News, another Crain weekly newspaper in Akron.
Elizabeth A. Jackson started as an editorial intern on Jan. 25. She will do research, reporting and writing from the Akron office.
