LOUISVILLE, KY. — Jones Plastic & Engineering LLC is entering the market for thin-wall, consumer product packaging.
The company announced last week that it had installed a 660-ton, high-speed Husky injection press to mold containers, its 12th new press in three years. National accounts manager Steve M. Jones did not disclose the cost of the machinery. Jones operates more than 100 injection presses.
Jones will continue as a custom molder but will stress thin-wall packaging in its sales efforts this year, said Steve Jones.
Its main markets include appliances, household goods, automotive, business machines and electronics.
Jones recent machinery purchases included a 1,450-ton Mitsubishi press. The company's overall press range is 40-2,000 tons. Jones runs molding facilities at its headquarters in Louisville, plus in Leitchfield, Ky., Williamsburg, Ky., and in Camden, Tenn. It had sales of about $116 million for the year ended Sept. 30, 1997.
Steve Jones said the company recently changed its name from Jones Plastics and Engineering Corp. because a limited liability company gets more favorable tax status under Kentucky law than a corporation.
