Tech Group Inc. has expanded its medical products business by acquiring Vollrath Group Inc. of Gallaway, Tenn.
Vollrath injection and blow molds mainly proprietary bedside utensils, kits and surgical bowls. A small part of its sales is from stainless-steel medical products.
Tech Group will integrate Vollrath into its medical products division, which includes American Precision Plastics, also mainly a proprietary medical goods and laboratory products molder, in Northglenn, Colo. Mark Dorris, vice president and general manager of Tech Group's medical products division, said Tech Group's total sales exceeded $200 million last year and will climb to about $230 million with the Vollrath purchase.
Vollrath management and production employees will continue at Gallaway, Dorris said in a telephone interview from the medical division's Lake Forest, Ill., office.
Vollrath President Charles Lightcap said in a news release that the two companies' complementary resources will benefit customers and Vollrath employees.
Tech Group Chief Executive Officer Charles Stroupe said Vollrath's well-known brand name will strengthen his firm's medical products business. Tech Group did not disclose terms of the March 15 purchase from Windway Capital Corp. of Sheboygan, Wis.
Tech Group of Scottsdale, Ariz., has 16 facilities in its medical products, custom molding and packaging divisions.
