EVANSVILLE, IND. — DSM Engineering Plastics has added to its thermoplastic elastomer holdings by acquiring GE Plastics' Lomod-brand copolyester line.
DSM, an Evansville-based business unit of DSM NV of Sittard, the Netherlands, will combine the Lomod business with its own Arnitel-brand copolyester line. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Most Lomod use was focused in automotive airbag covers. Copolyesters also are used in automotive applications including air ducts, body plugs and convoluted tubing.
The purchase does not include any production facilities. DSM will use GE's technology to improve Arnitel production at DSM's plant in Emmen, the Netherlands.
DSM is increasing Arnitel production in Emmen by 30 percent. The company declined to release sales or capacity totals for Arnitel.
