CINCINNATI — Equistar Chemicals LP has invested about $1 million to upgrade the five-layer blown film line at its technology center in Cincinnati to a seven-layer system.
The new line has seven extruders and an internal bubble cooling system and dual lip ring. At the heart of the line is a Battenfeld Optiflow SP multilayer die, which reduces residence time and melt flow contact to minimize interfacial instability.
The line produces multilayer films and has maximum output of 300 pounds per hour.
Houston-based Equistar is a joint venture of Lyondell Chemical Co., Millennium Chemicals Inc. and Occidental Petroleum Corp. Equistar is North America's largest producer of ethylene, propylene and polyethylene.
