POMPANO BEACH, FLA. —Phil Sagarin, the former head of Valve Corp. of America, died Feb. 9 at his home in Pompano Beach. He was 89.
Born in 1909 in Skowhegan, Maine, Sagarin is best remembered for his activities with VCA, an aerosol valve manufacturer. He took the company public under the name VCA Corp. and created one of the industry's first fully integrated suppliers. Pooling the resources of Metal Fabrications, Maryland Tool, VCA, Poly Mold Plastics and Fairfield Plastics, Sagarin supplied such companies as Avon, Revlon and Estee Lauder.
In 1974, he sold the mini-conglomerate to Ethyl Corp. of Richmond, Va.
Sagarin is survived by his wife, Wanda.
