Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. will close a large injection molding plant in Logan, Ohio, by October unless a buyer can be found, workers were told May 21.
The 334,000-square-foot plant molds instrument panel skins and substrates for Ford Motor Co. vehicles and employs close to 600, said spokesman Scott Baughman of Akron, Ohio-based Goodyear.
Ford will pull that instrument-panel business in-house in October.
Goodyear has sought a buyer for the plant off and on for two years, Baughman said. Lear Corp. of Southfield, Mich., backed out of a conditional agreement to buy the plant in 1997, Goodyear officials said.
The Logan plant has at least three Milacron presses, with clamping forces of 850-2,450 tons, sources said.
