PITTSBURG, KAN. — Vinylplex Inc. has completed a major expansion of its Pittsburg plant that increases production by 48 percent.
The PVC pipe manufacturer started a new extrusion line May 13 that boosted the company's annual capacity from 49 million pounds to 75 million pounds, Vinylplex General Manager Bill Coleman said.
Though the company had some available space at the headquarters site, it added 8,000 square feet to revamp its blending facility, in order to handle as much as 85 million pounds of resin a year. That facility began operations April 28, he said.
The $2.5 million expansion is part of a plan to improve efficiency at the plant and allow it to grow, Coleman added.
Vinylplex hopes to add three employees this year to handle the expansion and also is considering acquisitions, he said.
The company reported $17 million in sales for fiscal 1998.
