Austin, Texas-based packaging material supplier Austin Foam Plastics Inc. is following major customer Dell Computer Corp.
Austin's newly formed Tennessee division has leased 81,600 square feet in a refurbished, 25-year-old manufacturing structure in LaVergne, Tenn., effective July 1.
Operations are to begin within three weeks and the company expects to employ 80 in two shifts by October, according to Wes Kirby, operations director for the division.
The site is 11 miles from a Nashville campus facility Dell is constructing and 20 miles from a temporary location in Lebanon, Tenn., where Dell plans to begin computer manufacturing in August. Dell, based in Round Rock, Texas, announced the construction plans in May.
Austin, which leased the facility May 20, supplies foam and corrugated packaging for use in shipping Dell products. Austin Foam Plastics has extensive operations in Texas.
