AKRON, OHIO — Gerry Podesta, recently named to the newly created post of general manager of e-commerce for GE Plastics in Pittsfield, Mass., will be the keynote luncheon speaker at Plastics News' Executive Forum 2000 this fall in Florida.
Podesta's Oct. 14 presentation will immediately precede a five-person panel that will debate how electronic commerce is likely to affect plastics processors.
In his new position, Podesta is charged with leading the firm's e-commerce efforts, and reports directly to President and Chief Executive Officer Gary L. Rogers.
Podesta in 1981 earned a bachelor's degree in plastics engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, joined GE Plastics two years later as technical marketing specialist, and has risen through the ranks since.
His posts have included marketing manager for the consumer and electronics markets for GE Plastics Americas and director of the automotive original equipment manufacturer team for the Americas Commercial Division.
He most recently worked in Singapore as managing director of GE Plastics Southeast Asia.
E-commerce will be just one portion of the broad-based Executive Forum 2000 program, which will focus on assessing the prospects for a dozen key types of resin and end markets.
